Album "Funky Side of the Road" released on Dec 19th, 2016
What people say about the album:
The Ark of Music:
“…Pablo Embon’s latest album, Funky Side Of The Road, a genre-crossing, multi-instrumental, fusion jazz-based extravaganza, showcases his years of mastery.” “…While opening tracks “Is That You”, and, “Golden Peak”, set a light, jazz-guitar/keys mood, the third piece, “2222”, introduces a Flamenco element that caught the favor of my ear. Technically sound, and rich in improvisation, these three tracks inform listeners—immediately—that Embon is the real deal in this genre.” “…The effortless nature with which Pablo seems to create his music is something that can—all too easily—be taken for granted. You see, there’s nothing “easy” about what he’s doing. But, at the end of the day, that’s what mastery is: the ability to hide the years of practice and effort within one lovely melody. That is exactly what this master has done on this album. I found it extremely pleasant to listen to.”
MuzikMan Write-A-Music Review:
“…The mixture of jazz, rock and world is very enticing to a listener seeking a variety of sounds or all of them combined. Pablo keeps it fresh and moving from start to finish on this recording”. “…Funky Side of The Road is indie music at its very best. A multitude of talent is presented and you get a front row seat to some tastefully done tracks, some have a slower pleasing pace while others grab you and take you for jog around the block and keep you energized. When all is said and done you just heard a very solid and entertaining album full of instrumental jazz and world music.”
“…The album includes a variety of instrumental Jazz-Fusion styles throughout, combined with some elements of funk, creating a very unique sound. There are 12 diverse tracks on the album.”
“…Embon as a multi-instrumentalist is blessed with a talent that shines through on his work. Piano and guitar move seamlessly throughout the pieces and you would be hard put to detect any divergence between the roles they play.” “…Embon's talent gives him the confidence to improvise, something which those who struggle with performing music can often find astonishing.” “…Each album of Pablo Embon's I get to review, I am reminded of how easy it is to sound good - if you know what you are doing. Embon is a master of his craft and is capable of bringing any listener close to the real feel of the music, and empathizing with the imagery he is trying to create. I recommend you take the time to truly listen to it. It has the ability to open up to you if you are open enough yourself. “
Middle Tennessee Music:
“…Funky Side of the Road is a collection of funk-infused alt-jazz compositions from the masterfully talented, Israeli based pianist, guitarist and composer. He also produced and mixed the album.” “…From the slower more chilled Our Last Dance to the sombering piano of One Day Left to the funky, jammin’ grooves of Naughty Lucy, Pablo takes us on a musical carpet ride through complex arrangements, dancing harmonies, and untamed melodies guaranteed to move you. The infusion of funk into Embon’s already awesome jazz sauce is a nice surprise and a sound that is warmly welcomed on this new record.”
Music Street Journal:
“…”Is that You?”: There is some amazing jazz on this killer tune. I love the piano work, but I am also enthralled by the basic groove here. There are definitely fusion sections later in the track, but parts of this are based in traditional jazz. 2222 There is some exceptional melodic material here. This is such a great piece of music. Both the guitar and the piano shine brightly, but the whole band puts in good performances. Naughty Lucy: Bluesy rock, fusion and something a bit like Booker T. and the MGs all merge on this killer tune. It's one of the most instantly accessible things here.”
Indie Band Guru Magazine:
“…The 12 track collection is an experience in Jazz Fusion. The opening song “Is That You?” start us off with a real energy that will draw in the listener to the happy world of Pablo Embon. On “2222” he shows us how he can combine all of his experience with different styles into one cohesive track that is silky smooth yet has elements from all these sub-genres. We take a modern turn on “Wedding Day” with piano fusing with guitar and even some electric instruments to show a truly unique side to Embon’s music. The talent shines through here as each instrument is played perfectly. This is probably my favorite on the record. “
“…Pablo Embon immediately starts off Funky Side of the Road with Is That You?, a track that deftly unites 1990s jazz with the more experimental modern (1950s/1960s) and fusion jazz styles.” “…“Golden Peak” is a much more heady effort. There are a number of distinct paths that fans can take during this track. For example, the splashier pianos have a bit of a spontaneous sound, while the bass is much more angular and neat. It is during Golden Peak that we see Embon’s own unique sound showcased. “ “…”The Time Has Come” further showcases Embon’s Protean nature. So many styles and influences make their presence known during Funky Side of the Road, but this track is particularly nuanced. Listeners would do well to focus in and hear each note, as some bits and bobs at the periphery may be missed.”
